NSFAS 2021 applications

In order to apply for 2021 NSFAS funding, you’ll need a copy of your ID. You will also need consent from your parents, guardian or spouse to submit their personal information for validation and verification.

Once you accept the applicable terms and conditions, you confirm that you have received consent from all relevant parties.

If the applicant is dependant on their parents, guardian or spouse, they must provide ID copies of parents, guardians or spouse, as well as, proof of income (payslip or appointment letter) of the parent(s), guardian, or spouse where applicable.

If the applicant is self-sufficient, they must provide proof of income (payslip or appointment letter) and one year’s IRP5 form.

If the applicant has a disability, they must provide a completed and signed disability annexure A (if their information is not pre-populated on the online application form). If the applicant is recognised as a vulnerable child, they must provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.

  • Divorce Decree

If you’re a SASSA recipient then no proof of income is required. Certified documents are also not a requirement due to COVID-19 restrictions.


To access your funding progress through your myNSFAS account, you are required to register or re-register a myNSFAS account:

  • Go to www.nsfas.org.za
  • Click myNSFAS tab
  • Click register
  • Tick the box to allow NSFAS to verify your details
  • Then capture ID number as it is stated on your ID document
  • Type in your full names and surname as per your ID number
  • Type in your current email address
  • Confirm your email address
  • Type in your cellphone number
  • Create a password
  • Confirm password
  • Upload ID Copy
  • Click register
  • OTP will be sent to the email and cell number provided (this OTP expires after 24 hours)
  • Type in the OTP and click submit
  • You have now completed your re-registration

To complete registration, you will need a copy of your ID. For users with the ID card make sure that you upload a copy reflecting both sides of your ID card. Your email address will be your username.
